EIT Health: Two student teams win SensUs competition
Two teams came away winners during the 8-9 September presentations by multidisciplinary groups of students who had developed innovative biosensing systems over nine months of work for the SensUs 2017 Biosensor Contest.
The teams came to Eindhoven University of Technology for the final testing event and public event of the contest.
An EIT Health Campus activity, SensUs 2017 represents the second edition of the SensUs student competition. As of November 2016, student teams have been designing, building, and testing biosensor systems that are meant to detect a selected cardiovascular biomarker (NT-proBNP) in blood plasma. Last year, five universities participated in SensUs 2016. In SensUs 2017 there were ten different international universities competing with each other.
On Friday, 8 September, the biosensors of the student teams were demonstrated and tested live with biological samples. The teams also presented their innovation ideas, and there was a market with stands of several partners. On Saturday, 9 September, during the public event, the student teams introduced themselves and their biosensors to the general public. Presentations and workshops had been given by experts in the field.
At the end of the event a jury granted the awards to the winning teams.
Winners
- The team @TESTbiosensor, from the Netherlands was the winner of three of the categories of the sensUs 2017:
- public inspiration award
- translation potential award and
- analytical performance award
- The winner of the SensUs 2017 creativity award is the team Uppsense from Sweden.
