Jonathan Levie is a professor of entrepreneurship and regional development with over 35 years’ experience in entrepreneurship research, education, and outreach. His research spans early corporate growth, entrepreneurial finance, and entrepreneurial ecosystems. For 20 years, Mr. Levie was based at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, where he served as its founding Director.
More recently, he was Theme Lead for Research Theme 1 (Ambition and Growth) at the UK’s Enterprise Research Centre. He has been heavily involved in the development of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor since its inception, serving variously as Associate Coordinator, Board member, EU grant manager, and co-director of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor UK. Mr. Levie recently co-founded a Centre for Entrepreneurial Growth and Scaling at National University of Ireland Galway with Professor Esther Tippmann, an expert in global scaling. He was proposal lead for 'ASPIRE: Next Generation Graduates', a EUR 7.5 million Higher Education Authority-funded project to develop the professional skills of students at NUI Galway through trans-disciplinary learning announced in October 2020, and he is the work package lead for ASPIRE’s curriculum initiatives.
