Between 2023 and 2025, the Deep Tech Talent Initiative will train one million Europeans in the skills they need to enter deep tech fields like AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and other deep tech areas that will keep Europe at the forefront of global innovation.
These technologies will be essential for completing Europe’s overarching goals in the green and digital transition. The Deep Tech Talent Initiative is a core element of the European Commission’s New European Innovation Agenda which aims to position Europe at the forefront of the new wave of deep tech innovation and start-ups. It entrusts Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem – the EIT – with the task of providing the valuable component of new talent.
How The Deep Tech Talent Initiative works
As part of the Initiative, the EIT Community will offer courses and funding to develop new curricula in deep tech. In addition, the EIT is mobilising its network of over 3 200 partners to create a powerful educational platform bringing together training providers, companies, higher education institutions, public authorities, and financing partners. They will all contribute to the objective of the Initiative through the Pledge for Deep Tech Talents. Any organisation with an interest in training Europe’s deep tech talent is invited to join the Pledge!
The website of the Initiative will offer a gateway to all the courses provided by pledge partners and the EIT Community. It will also present opportunities to develop new deep tech training materials and gives organisations and learners a platform where they can interact.
Europe’s untapped deep tech talent pool
The initiative is prioritising three groups of learners:
- Secondary school students, especially young women, with an interest in tech
- University-level students who need more specialised deep tech training
- Adult learners at any career stage who need additional deep tech skills
The Initiative’s courses and trainings will combine deep tech knowledge with the creative and entrepreneurial skills that help the EIT’s learners take the initiative in fighting global challenges.

The Deep Tech Talent Initiative will run until the end of 2025. The first wave of trainings provided by the EIT’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities is already available on the platform. New trainings and other opportunities will soon be provided by training provider pledgers to meet the EIT’s goal of one million learners by the end of 2025.
