Karina Lubomirova Angelieva, Head of the Political Cabinet of the Bulgarian Minister of Energy

Karina Angelieva is the former Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth and former Deputy Minister of Education and Science. 

Today, she manages a large portfolio, including the programming and implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Instrument and European Structural Investment Funds in innovation, science, competitiveness and growth, and education. Karina participated actively in the development of a new governmental structure for innovation, and was directly managing smart specialisation policy, space policy, business-related measures (such as stimulating start-ups and spin offs), digital economy, international relations, Horizon Europe, and more. 

At the EU, Karina had been the Head of sectors “Education and Training” and “Research and Innovation” at the Bulgarian Permanent Representation to the EU. During the Bulgarian Presidency in the first half of 2018, she chaired the Council’s Research Working Party and led the discussions on the future of EU Research and Innovation agenda. Karina has a Master's in Contemporary History and a Master's in European Integration.
