Climate change is causing global disruption, with vulnerable communities and ecosystems most affected. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Europe is warming faster than any other continent and is already experiencing serious economic and societal impacts.

Climate KIC, formerly known as EIT Climate-KIC, is a key European organisation tackling climate change through innovation. Established in 2010 as one of the EIT’s first Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs), Climate-KIC:

  • supports the development and scaling of sustainable ventures through tailored business creation and acceleration programmes;
  • collaborates with partner organisations such as municipalities to foster entrepreneurship activities that support local climate goals;
  • provides educational and upskilling programmes to equip public and private leadership with innovation capacities essential for tackling climate change;
  • helps test and implement new ideas by supporting innovation projects that drive decarbonisation and strengthen climate resilience.

According to the EIT model, EIT KICs are expected to generate their own revenue and become financially sustainable in 15 years. In 2024, following the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with the EIT, Climate KIC entered a new phase as a financially sustainable member of the EIT Community, continuing to align with the EIT model while operating with greater autonomy.

With Climate KIC, you’ll be part of a powerful movement driving tangible climate action at the local level.
