EIT Climate-KIC Nordic start-up Donkey Republic offers solutions to public bike sharing system problems: predictability, flexibility and convenience.
Donkey Republic’s bike-sharing system is an easy-to-use online scheme without the difficulties of leaving deposits and showing ID. The bikes – or the donkeys as they call them – can be booked online at any time of the day for up to seven days. The Donkey Republic App with an in-built map will then guide the user to the reserved bike, which can be opened via bluetooth.
Donkey Republic partnered with several bike shops providing them a new alternative to rent out their bikes. The Startup goes even one step further and invites private bike owners to join the Donkey Republic Platform. All they must do is to order a Donkey kit – comprising of the Donkey lock, a front handlebar panel, and stickers – and register their bike on the platform. This way the bike sharing community is constantly growing and has already been used 10.000 times. This “Airbnb for bicycles” competes with existing bike-sharing schemes but can also complement it, according to co-founder Erdem Ovacik.

NAVYA develops driverless shuttles in order to optimise the transportation of personnel, visitors or service agents on the last miles, in private or public sites (e.g.: airports, hospitals, industrial sites, amusement parks etc). The company has established itself as a specialist in the field, renowned for using complex technologies combining software expertise, automobile construction and advanced techniques in navigation, geolocation and telecommunication.
NAVYA is based in Lyon and Paris, France and employs 50 people now. Its CEO, Christophe Sapet, is a serial-entrepreneur (Infonie, Infogrames Entertainment) who is fond of digital and automobile. In October 2015, after 10 years of R&D around artificial intelligence and decision planning leading to sophisticated software and algorithms, the scale-up launched the ARMA, a 100% autonomous, driverless and electric shuttle, assembled in Lyon (see video on the right).

Pro-Drone develops technologies to carry out the inspection of energy infrastructures, using cost-efficient, robust and automated airborne solutions. Pro-Drone is focused on solutions for wind turbine blade inspections, particularly offshore, and transmission lines. Pro-Drone’s approach is integrated and involves a customised hardware platform, tuning flight algorithms, specific sensors and tailored post-processing software that can streamline and automate the process.
Pro-Drone has an integrated approach to aerial inspections, drawing from the best technologies available to provide high quality and robust reports. Pro-Drone customises the whole process, including the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV’s), the sensors they carry and the whole post-processing of the data recovered, in order to deliver unparalleled results. UAVs offer a whole new range of solutions that can make inspection operations more efficient, safe and automated.
