The Digital Sandbox Accelerator

APPLY HERE

The digital revolution has created massive amounts of medical data that can be used for research. This programme supports SMEs to tap into that data to create healthcare innovations.

The Digital Sandbox programme helps SMEs gain access to public biobanks, sample holders and registers. Access to this vast store of health data can offer unparalleled insights, paving the way for new treatments and medical innovations.

The Digital Sandbox works in concert with the EIT Health RABBIT initiative (Registries and Biobanks in Transition), which aims to simplify access to public biobanks and quality registers. In addition, the Digital Sandbox can provide up to €35,000 in funding to help SMEs leverage public health data in the development of innovative products.

Is it for me?

Companies must be active in biotech, medtech or digital health, and incorporated or registered before the application deadline. The EIT Health Digital Sandbox is suitable for micro and small enterprises, but their innovative project or product must be at technology-readiness level 3 at least, with proof of concept demonstrated analytically.

The journey

Building on experience gained in the 2019 pilot phase, the 2020 Digital Sandbox will unite stakeholders from the public sector and European SMEs to create an arena where collaboration can thrive.

The programme has four phases:

  1. Application submission
  2. Evaluation
  3. Selection
  4. Initiation and implementation of selected projects with one-year duration.

During all four phases, selected companies will be supported in establishing connections and collaboration with biobanks and registers. Additionally, they will be invited to participate in dedicated events with stakeholders from the public sector.
