EIT Awareness Day in Finland

The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture is organising an awareness event on European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) on Tuesday the 11th of June from 9h00-14h00. The event takes places in the Open Innovation House, Otaniemi, which is also the home of EIT ICT Labs’ Finnish co-location centre.

Speakers include the Finnish Minister of Education and Science Krista Kiuru, the EIT Director José Manuel Leceta, Member of the EIT Governing Board and Vice President for the Academy of Finland Marja Makarow as well as the Director EIT ICTLabs Helsinki Marko Turpeinen.

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has the objective of strengthening Europe's innovation capacity through the so-called KICs (Knowledge and Innovation Communities) covering the knowledge triangle of research, higher education and innovation. The EIT is no new funding instrument for individual projects, but supports the set-up and the activities of the KICs across Europe. The KICs are the EIT's operational units and work in cross-disciplinary areas of strategic importance. In the KICs, the three sides of the knowledge triangle are interconnected allowing for new forms of cooperation and synergies. An emphasis is placed on generating growth by placing emphasis on entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial education and nurturing start-ups. So far, the following three KICs have been established in Europe: Climate-KIC (Climate Change Mitigation) EIT ICT Labs (Information and Communication Technologies) KIC InnoEnergy (Sustainable Energy). Several new KICs are expected to be launched in the period of 2014-2018 (Innovation for Healthy Living and Active Aging, Raw Materials, Food4Future, Urban Mobility, Added-value Manufacturing, Smart Secure Societies).

The conference language will be English.
