EIT Climate-KIC is holding its third Urban Transitions workshop for practitioners looking to share knowledge and build consortia for low-carbon projects and zero-waste solutions in cities.

This two-day workshop (17-19 May 2017) will bring together players from across municipal authorities, private sector corporations, the start-up and SME communities, academia and civil society groups for discussion, knowledge sharing and networking – on financing low carbon projects, to scaling up projects for impact through alliances.

Participants can expect sessions on:

  • adaptation planning and bankable projects in Bologna
  • using data and data tools in solving urban challenges
  • green finance and city bonds
  • the zero waste city
  • deep retrofitting
  • behaviour change
  • nature-based solutions and blue-green infrastructure

New open innovation challenges

The workshop will also introduce two new exiting open innovation challenges, currently recruiting – Urban Food from Residual Heat, which aims to foster urban agriculture and local food enterprise; and the C40’s Reinventing Cities scheme, which aims to mobilise collaborations that will transform under-used public sites into beacons of sustainability.

Speakers and panellists

Confirmed speakers and panellists include Associate Professor of Urban Planning, Department of Architecture, University of Bologna and Councillor for the Municipality of Bologna, Valentina Orioli; C40 senior advisor Hélène Chartier; World Business Council for Sustainable Development Director Roland Hunziker; Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) senior manager Roman Mendle; and Enzo Favoino, chair of the scientific committee at Zero Waste Europe.
