EIT Digital: establishing a European education ecosystem for cybersecurity
Building on existing expertise.
As part of the Horizon 2020 project Concordia, EIT Digital will build on its expertise in skills development and help the cybersecurity industry and its professionals, but also teachers, to be up to date on the latest trends and developments in the sector.
EIT Digital is a prominent partner of the Concordia consortium, the newly launched H2020 project in charge of piloting a EU Cybersecurity Competence Network, and leading the development of a common Cybersecurity Research & Innovation Roadmap for Europe.
As part of its contribution, EIT Digital will design and develop a packaged cybersecurity specific methodology for the creation of new courses and/or teaching materials, specific to the needs of the different cybersecurity disciplines and of the involved industry. Based on the packaged methodology, new courses will be developed targeting industry mid-level management and executives, more specifically three nanoMOOCs and two microMasters.
EIT Digital’s Chief Education Officer, Professor Roberto Prieto, emphasises: 'Concordia is a very important project to us. We have extensive experience in developing learning content for professionals, and we will put it at the disposal of the consortium as part of our contribution to developing a European Education Ecosystem for Cybersecurity. Besides, we are not new in the cybersecurity domain. In partnership with Berkeley Executive Education’s Haas School of Business, we successfully ran in 2018 the programme Cybersecurity 360 for Professionals. Our strong point lays in the rich and constantly growing list of partners we are collaborating with. It helps us deliver just-in-time high-quality education content.'
Cybersecurity is not only a challenge for researchers and the industry; it is a major concern for society at large. Under Concordia’s umbrella, EIT Digital will therefore also develop cybersecurity meta-courses for teachers, accompanied by guidelines that help them approach their pupils to develop a culture of risk-prevention.
Concordia project is one of four pilots financed by the European Commission which will develop a sustainable European cybersecurity competence network. It brings together 46 partners from more than 20 European countries, including leading research, technology, industry and public sector representatives.
