EIT Health- supported Care to Translate, raised EUR 2.5M in funding

EIT Health- supported Swedish start-up, Care to Translate, has raised  EUR 2.5M in its early-stage venture capital funding round.

The funds will help the translation app to expand its market reach and remedy the lack of interpreters in healthcare with its digital translation service.

Care to Translate offers digital translation to reduce these barriers with an aim of improving standards of care, shortening hospital stays and reducing care costs. The digital medical translator enables communication between healthcare professionals and patients and is available 24/7 on a smart device or browser.

The app focused its launch on the Nordic countries, the UK, and BeNeLux and has now entered a test phase in the United States and Canada. It currently has close to 500,000 users in 200 countries and can translate to and from 40 different languages. The service is adapted to a care context and is medically verified.

EIT Health supported Care to Translate to develop its internationalisation strategy through an acceleration programme, propelling the start-up towards the early stage of venture capital funding.

“We attended EIT Health’s GoGlobal programme 2019. As we are a company with a clear goal of going global this is of the highest importance for us and the programme helped us with relevant market analysis and hands-on enter market strategy for several of the markets we are now entering and those we already have entered.”

- Linus Kullänger, co-founder and CEO of Care to Translate

The investment will also go to developing the product further, growing the team and launching in new markets.

In the coming year, Care to Translate plans to release new solutions that the founders believe can radically change the healthcare industry. For example, the translation of various digital care platforms.
