Jungle AI and Smart Turbine Management Winners of Hack The Wind 2017
Jungle AI and Smart Turbine Management hacked their way to a EUR 7 000 prize each on the first ever open wind energy hackathon, held under a deal between industry advocacy body WindEurope and European sustainable energy innovation outfit EIT InnoEnergy. The prizes were awarded during the WindEurope Conference and Exhibition 2017, held between 28 and 30 November at RAI Amsterdam.
The decision was announced by a jury made up of experts in the wind sector, on the afternoon of the second day of the conference.
Moreover, TRM System and Vento shared a prize worth EUR 5 000 for either a technical achievement to hack one of the presented challenges or their potential to convert into an actual business in the future.
The teams developed their ideas using EnOS, a smart, scalable open platform hatched by Envision Energy, the technical partner of the Hack The Wind 2017 for Internet of Things applications. Also, EDP, the global industry leader and one of the most innovative companies in the wind sector, served as the challenge partner of the hackathon.
Tim Naylor, Director of Envision Digital EMEA, said, 'the role of developers in the energy industry is to create innovative solutions in a rapidly changing world. We got some of the brightest minds here at WindEurope, developing innovative solutions for wind power predictions and predictive maintenance by using Envision’s EnOS energy IoT platform and this will definitely help accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in the future.'

First of its kind, the Hack The Wind 2017 hackathon had a total of over 80 participants out of a total of over 180 registrations. Students, data scientists, data analysts, coders, back/front-end developers, start-ups, industry actors, among others, built 17 teams to try to solve one of the challenges during this 48-hour event.
