KIC InnoEnergy to launch unique intellectual property courses as European patent applications reach new high

KIC-InnoEnergy Intellectual Property online course

KIC-InnoEnergy's new Intellectual Property (IP) and Patents Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) goes live on 6th September 2016.

The specialisation, entitled Competitive Intelligence of Effective Exploitation of Patents (CIEEP), responds to the ongoing rise in applications for European patents. Last year saw the number of filings reach nearly 279,000 – a record high and reflective of the significant levels of innovation taking place across Europe.

CIEEP has been designed in partnership with leading patent training providers ZBM, the technology transfer office of UPC and Competitive Intelligence Consultants IALE and is made up of three modules:

  • Patents, patentability, and patent infringement
  • Competitive intelligence and technology scouting
  • IP commercialisation

It’s aimed specifically at companies or individuals developing new technologies in energy or biotech. It will address how to get the maximum value from Research and Development (R&D) projects, how to protect IP or make existing patents more profitable.

Diego Pavia, CEO of KIC InnoEnergy, said, 'The topic of this course is both unique and timely as demand for European patents continues to grow. It’s never been more important for innovators to understand the value of IP and how to protect it successfully.
“By the end of the course, students will have the tools to give their business a competitive advantage. It’s about having access to information that might affect key business decisions and also help transfer the results of R&D work to the market. European companies have a lot to gain if they manage IP in the right way – this is a users’ guide on how to do it.'

All of KIC InnoEnergy’s MOOCs are available to view on iSE – by KIC InnoEnergy – the new portal for professional online learning in sustainable energy.
