Nemi signes 11 new on-demand transport services

Nemi, a company part of EIT Urban Mobility’s investment portfolio, makes public transport in low-density areas feasible by providing a software solution that enables flexible bus services.

Support by EIT Urban Mobility has allowed Nemi to become the reference tool for planning and operating flexible public transport services, with a differential model that improves reliability and predictability for users, while maximising vehicle occupancy and service efficiency. Recently, Nemi launched Transport on demand (TOD) services in Palencia, Girona, Ribes de freser and its first services in Italy.

Over the past year Nemi has launched 11 new TOD services, covering rural public transport as well as a night bus service, a rural taxi service and the first service in Italy in the form of a shuttle service on the coast in the Sud Salento region.

By creating efficient alternative to private vehicles, Nemi not only encourages public transport use but in turn minimises energy consumption and reliance on fossil fuels. Investing in public transit is essential for creating liveable, green cities that prioritise the well-being of people and the planet

To celebrate the anniversary and the successes of those five years, Nemi held an event in Barcelona’s Moritz factory. The event was well attended by experts in the mobility sector, who took part in roundtable discussions and gave speeches.

CEO and managing partner of the mobility consultancy Factual, Josep Laborda opened the event with a presentation exploring the current state of the on-demand transport market and the new developments in the technology exploited by Nemi to improve its accessibility.

Cristina Pou of the Generalitat of Catalonia underlined the 6 new clic.cat services in areas of low population density and mountain areas in the provinces of Lleida and Tarragona and congratulated Nemi for its TOD services under the umbrella of clic.cat.

The event closed with a few words from co-founders Martí Jofre (CEO) and Santiago Soley together with CTO and managing partner Eloi Martín.

Appreciation to the Public Administration was given for their commitment to TOD but Jofre called for more ambition to replicate the model in Spain – stressing that the support of EIT Urban Mobility has been essential to continue growing and opening new niches in the on-demand transport market both here in Spain and outside our country.

Nemi have benefitted from various supports from EIT Urban Mobility, most recently the Better Mobility Accelerator in 2023.
