EIT ICT Labs RICH Call 2015 for SMEs
RICH (Reliable IP for time synchronized Channel Hopping networks)

Published : 20 March 2015
Deadline : The deadline for submitting proposals is April 20, 2015.

Scope

Cyber-physical systems enable the physical world to merge with the virtual, leading to an Internet of things, data and services. RICH stands for ‘Reliable IP for time synchronized Channel Hopping networks’. It is a pan-European EIT ICT Labs activity in the innovation area Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). The objective of RICH is defining and achieving reliable wireless solutions for the ‘Internet of Things’ based on the IP protocol.

The RICH activity is requesting the engagement of Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) with relevant experience, expertise and access to technological systems for the monitoring and control of critical infrastructures. Access to the physical infrastructure is an essential requirement. The partner will have the opportunity to work towards the commercialisation of the RICH technology through supported field-testing and technical experts.

The SME will be subcontracted to take part in the RICH activity from May 1st until December 31st 2015. Two companies can be funded with allocated budgets of up to EUR 60.000 and EUR 50.000 correspondingly. The allocation shall cover all costs related to the project, including travel costs. The detailed specification for results, delivery of results and financial reimbursement will be worked out once suitable candidates have been selected.

Requirements

The following competences and experiences are required:

  • The SME must have experience in developing and commercializing a fully-functional wireless sensor network (WSN) system (integrated hardware and software platform) that is targeted at industrial applications. The SME must have proven experience with implementing an embedded low-power wireless protocol stack, and must have the willingness and skills to work with immature technology.
  • The SME must have the capability of integrating the RICH hardware platform into its existing WSN hardware platform. The SME must have MSc/PhD level experience with preferably time synchronized and channel hopping WSNs. Previous experience with integrating and working with NXP Jennic modules is a plus. Additionally, the SME must have the capability of integrating the RICH software platform running on Contiki into its own WSN software platform.
  • The SME must have a strong commercial interest to explore and exploit the RICH technology, and develop products based on that. The SME must present an exploitation and use plan addressing the target industrial market.
  • The SME must have rapid hardware prototyping possibilities, in order to perform early tests and trials.
  • The SME must have access to an industrial real-life deployment or a realistic industrial test environment. The WSN integrated with the RICH technology should be deployed and evaluated in this industrial setting.
  • The SME meets the SME definition of the European Commission.

How to Apply?

Candidate partners will be evaluated with respect to the requirements described, and their suitability given the scope of the project and will be informed about the success of their application by April 25th.

Applications shall include the following information in a maximum of 3 pages that you can upload in the application form as listed below:

  • Short biography of the people (technical and coordinator) that will be working in the project.
  • Relevant competences and experience of the SME.
  • Expectations and ambition goal for the SME participation in the project.
  • Contact person of the SME.
