Birgit Kyvik always knew she wanted to be part of the innovation ecosystem. What she didn’t know was how quickly her path would accelerate thanks to Women2Invest.

Much more than just technical training, Birgit got an inspiring, in-depth learning experience that solidified her future in the venture capital world.

This is a programme under Supernovas, an EIT initiative that aims to increase female presence in the entrepreneurship and investment ecosystem, while also supporting women already active in it, a key priority of the European Commission.

From Thesis to Practice

With a background in business development and experience at the Norwegian VC firm Firda, Birgit already had exposure to the world of investment. But she wanted more than observation, she wanted to engage.

That’s why Women2Invest appealed to me as a great opportunity to deepen my understanding of the investment process and become more confident with the language and frameworks used in the industry. I wrote my thesis on ‘Why there are so few female partners in venture capital’, a particularly fascinating topic in the context of Norway, where we've made significant progress on gender equality in many other areas of business. Women2Invest gave me a chance to go deeper and prepare myself to help change that reality

New tools, new perspectives

Throughout the programme, Birgit explored key areas of investment, from due diligence and fund metrics to negotiation and exit strategies, guided by experts in the field.

The programme has given me a deeper understanding of the processes surrounding investments, including policies, due diligence, and a European perspective on investing. I’ve also learned a lot about negotiations, exits, and fund metrics, topics I was less familiar with before

What stood out the most was the quality of instruction

The most eye-opening part of the training was the incredibly skilled lecturers who took the time to thoroughly explain and engage with the material they were teaching to the Women2Invest cohort. I found that really inspiring! I was also surprised by how in-depth and detailed the sessions were. Even though I already had some background knowledge, I learned a lot, both from the lecturers and from the other women in the programme

A clear path ahead

Birgit now feels equipped to keep growing in the venture capital space, either as part of an investment team or as a future founder.

There are so many talented people in this industry I want to learn from. Women2Invest helped me see the path ahead and gave me the tools to walk it
