Join the EIT Manufacturing Summer School

The Way to Smart Manufacturing: “Machines don’t solve problems - humans solve them together!”

If you are a PhD researcher and you want to boost your abilities and competencies in Smart Manufacturing, this event provides current or prospective PhD students with the necessary skills, practical know-how, attitudes and values to meet the complex demands found in the industry 4.0 environment.

The EITM Summer School will be the opportunity for self-driven, ambitious PhD candidates to broaden their network with potential European partners and to boost their abilities and competencies in advanced tools for the design, implementation, organization, quality assessment and improvement of intelligent manufacturing systems.

Programme Outline

Starts remotely (16th of September) with workshops where industrial partners pitch industrial challenges and students collaboratively work on their solutions.​ During the “central week” (28th-30th September) students work together (in blended mode) in 8 hours of hacking time together with local mentors to translate their innovation into a feasible business solution​. School includes lectures and hands-on training on: design thinking, proof of concept, ROS, levels of autonomy, etc.​

​Due to COVID19 restrictions the school will be held in blended mode; sessions will be on-line (MS Teams) and students will attend from their universities.

How to apply?

Applications are open to PhD candidates, scholars and students with relevant background in the innovation processes and sustainable manufacturing and Professionals from small and medium sized companies, people connected to smart manufacturing, i.e. start-ups and company employees. The deadline is 31 August 2021.

As applicant you need to prepare: a CV, a motivation letter, documents showing your academic track records and apply at  EIT-M Doctoral School Portal

Selection & Enrolment

Until the 6th of September, the EITM Doctoral Scientific and Industrial Committee (EITM DSIC) will review the application materials through a competitive selection process based on the scientific excellency and the academic qualification of the applicants.

Selected participants will be contacted by the EIT Manufacturing Doctoral School office to complete their enrolment. In case of withdrawal, candidates from the waiting list will be contacted to fill all available seats.

Selected students will have time until Thursday the 9th to accept the participation offer. Waiting list students will be informed by the 10th september and must accept the participation by the 14th September the latest.

What does it cost?

  • Main fee: EUR 500
  • PhD Students and professionals from EIT Manufacturing partners & RIS students fee: EUR 200
  • PhD Students and professional from SIC* members: free of charge
  • Special offer for RIS women PhD students: free of charge

* Scientific and Industrial Committee members contributing to the Summer School program
