EIT Health Master Innovation Entrepreneurship Biomedical Engineering

The University of Barcelona has created a new Master's Degree to foster technological innovation in the health sector and promote business initiative.

The University of Barcelona has created a new Master's Degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering (starting September 2017). This master's degree has been introduced in coordination with EIT Health, in the framework of the European Union, and as part of the Research and Innovation Programme (Horizon 2020). It forms part of the Master Technological Innovation in Health (MTiH) programme offered by EIT Health.

The main aim of this master's degree is to train a new generation of technologists who will transform biomedical innovations into feasible business solutions. The master's degree helps students develop in-depth knowledge of technologies used in the health sector; gives them the capacity to understand clinical, social and economic aspects; and a broad understanding of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in the medical technology sector. It is designed to foster technological innovation in the health sector, and to promote business initiatives.

The Master's Degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering is directed versus two main types of students:

  • students with a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering
  • students with other bachelor's degrees, preferably in technical or scientific fields

This master's degree is taught jointly and entirely in English in the faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences, Economics and Business Studies, and Physics. Students who take at least 30 credits in an EIT Health institution outside of Spain (university, hospital, company, business school, research centre), shall receive the qualification of master's degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Barcelona, and a certificate from EIT Health.

Number of students: 25

  • Deadline for first admission round July 1, decision July 7. 
  • Deadline for second admission round 23 July, decision July 27. 

Deadline for third admission round September 12, decision September 15.
