EIT Raw Materials Rockathon Mining Challenge

Sandvik and EIT RawMaterials invite innovative problem solvers and teams to co-create solutions to mining challenges at Sandvik Rockathon!

 

Are you passionate to develop breakthrough solutions to the mining industry? Are you interested in creating a system that would make possible to “see” into the rock? Do you have in-depth knowledge or ideas of granular material sampling systems in challenging environment? Do you master mineral analysis method that could be used in harsh conditions? These are the different pieces of a puzzle to create on-board analyser to a mining equipment.

The goal

The goal is to find a solution to increase mineralogy and ore quality information of the rock mass in real-time and onboard of a mining equipment. This is an important part of the goal towards more sustainable mining by utilizing earth resources in a more efficient way. The goal for participants it to open business opportunities with Sandvik particularly.

How to apply

The call for teams for submitting their first ideas will end on 19 May 2017. Please fill in the application form and send it to Mikko Korhonen. All applications will be reviewed by EIT Raw Materials and all applicants will be informed one week after the deadline. Maximum of 5 teams will be selected to join the Rockathon. On 1-2 June, a webinar will be organised where invited teams will meet Sandvik’s experts to further discuss and explore specific challenges. During 6-8 September, Sandvik will host a Rockathon event in Tampere, Finland, where teams will meet and discuss with Sandvik’s experts, test and validate their preliminary solutions, visit Sandvik Test Mine facilities, and much more. Final solutions will be presented to Sandvik Jury on 8 September.

Q&A webinar: 1-2 June 2017

Rockathon: 6-7 September 2017

Final presentation: 8 September 2017

Limited travel reimbursement available for finalists.

Who will own my/our idea

Ideas, IPRs, solutions produced during the competition will stay with the team. Sandvik will have the first right of refusal to negotiate a further collaboration with the team, purchase or continue working on the project initiated at the Rockathon.
