EIT Health CEO to speak at conference promoting socially responsible research and innovation for health

EIT Health CEO to speak at EIT event

As part of a continuing effort to encourage responsible research, the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)  will host a 18-19 May conference on “Responsible Research and Innovation in the Health Industry”.

EIT Health’s CEO Sylvie Bove is scheduled to speak at the event, which addresses an issue that is very important to EIT Health.

'Responsible Research and Innovation can contribute to the understanding and development of the Ethical and Social issues of innovation in biomedicine and health, an issue of interest of the ELSI Board of the EIT Health', Ignasi López Verdaguer, Chairman of EIT Health’s Ethical, Legal and Social Implications Board (ELSI) Board, has noted.

The conference on Responsible Research and Innovation in the Health Industry will be held at the EESC offices in Brussels. As the organisers note, a Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) approach calls for integrating societal concerns in all the phases of the research and innovation process, from the design of the research agendas to the commercialisation of research outcomes.

The conference is designed to address ways in which RRI can help to boost innovation in biomedicine and health with a special focus on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). It will ask how social values and needs can be “integrated from scratch” and which drivers and obstacles RRI encounters when implemented in companies.
