foreseeti: EIT InnoEnergy supported company protecting digital infrastructure against cyber attacks
Cyber attacks are becoming one of the top risks in our modern, digital society, but managing IT security is extremely complex and expertise is scarce.
To solve this issue, securiCAD uses cutting-edge technology to proactively manage cyber security architecture.
Joakim Nydrén, co-founder of foreseeti, the start-up behind the product, explains: 'securiCAD is a state-of-the-art CAD-tool for proactive cyber security management. The user inputs the architecture and then the tool simulates hacker attacks and provides a "heat map’"of where the architecture is likely to be vulnerable.'
The product’s unique selling points are numerous, as are the benefits for consumers. 'Our product supports holistic, forward-looking analysis, provides actionable output even if the details are incomplete, and doesn’t require scanning or a high level of expertise,' Joakim says. 'The value for consumers is in improved security and return on investment; improved efficiency when conducting security analyses; and a fact-base for communication and decision-making.'
The development of securiCAD began during the MrCySeMoL Innovation Project supported by EIT InnoEnergy. 'EIT InnoEnergy and the EIT have been absolutely central for the commercialisation of this state-of-the-art research,' Joakim says. 'The opportunity to apply for Innovation Projects and also to join the Business Creation accelerator [EIT InnoEnergy Highway®] was a key igniter for the company. And the MrCySeMoL project has played a vital role in creating securiCAD and attracting large commercial interest.'
While foreseeti is the commercialising party for securiCAD, the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and Paluno, the Ruhr Institute for Software Technology, are partners in the project. Each brings a unique set of skills to the table, as Joakim describes. 'KTH has experience in cyber security research and Paluno has experience in advanced software analysis, while foreseeti has the capabilities to drive development at a high pace to commercialise the product.'
The first version of securiCAD was released to select partners and customers in 2015, with an improved market-ready version of the tool being developed in 2016. There has been a large amount of interest in foreseeti from security consultancies and the company’s potential was acknowledged by the EIT when foreseeti was nominated for the 2016 EIT Innovators Award. When asked what advice Joakim would offer start-ups looking to follow in his company’s successful footsteps, his message is simple: 'Starting up an innovative business is a lot of great work. Go for it!'
